Touchdown Zone: JAARS North-South Runway Extension

Region:  North Carolina, United States
Surface:  Grass
Elevation: 602 feet
Length: 1,400 feet
Width: 40 feet
Slope:  7% at steepest point

Purpose: This longer, sloped, cross-wind runway at the JAARS Townsend Airport opened up training and recurrency opportunities. With trees on both approaches and varied degrees of slope, this strip is a good training tool to prepare pilots for service on the field. The new length also supports training in turbine-powered aircraft like those flown overseas. The runway was dedicated in March 2016.

God at Work: God provided over 120 dump-truckloads of fill dirt from the construction of a nearby bridge and gas station all for free! God also provided a variety of volunteers who gave many hours/days/weeks of labor throughout the process.

The red outline show the location of the proposed runway extension.
