Aviation Management Fellow


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF AIR OPERATIONS (Or a designated Air Ops Manager based on the responsibilities of a selected applicant

The Aviation Management Fellow will play an integral role in the daily management of the Air Ops Division at JAARS. He or she will work closely with staff from all aviation sections to help manage the aviation programs at the JAARS Base and future Aviation hubs. Areas of service may include aviation training, safety, flight operations, aircraft maintenance management and more, but the Aviation Management Fellow may choose an emphasis in either Operations Management or Maintenance Management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Overall Management:
    • Ensure the activities of the Aviation department are meeting the stated operational goals of JAARS Ops Plan. 
    • Ensure the various divisions within aviation are working in a cohesive and coordinated manner, making the most of the resources allotted to us. 
    • Ensuring the staff within aviation have the resources needed to effectively conduct their work.
    • Assist in the development and watchful oversight of aviation business practices and budget processes.
    • Compile information and report data to successfully assess aviation’s effectiveness.
    • Promote communication both up and down the organizational structure, ensuring key operational information is passed on effectively. 
    • Participate in and promote a strong safety management culture using established procedures.
    • Help organize and complete special projects in collaboration with other aviation managers
  • Operations Management emphasis:
    • Assist in the leadership and supervision of the aviation operations team to maintain compliance with organizational standards and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
    • Coordinate aircraft and crew for JAARS Experience and Air Ops programs.
    • Assist in the management of the aviation fleet of aircraft to ensure its suitability and availability for JAARS activities.
    • Execute financial transactions within NetSuite to accurately reflect the cost of operations in accordance with procedures.  
    • Coordinate and communicate the flight, maintenance, and personnel availability in consultation with air ops managers and team leads
  • Maintenance Management emphasis:
    • Assist in the leadership and supervision of the aviation maintenance team to maintain compliance with organizational standards and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
    • Coordinate with the operations team to schedule aircraft maintenance events. 
    • Establish and execute project management of long term aircraft maintenance projects .
    • Maintain awareness of supply chain functions and inventory associated with aircraft maintenance.
    • Support JAARS experience events through the use of JAARS aircraft, hangar space, and events.

  • Working experience with Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.) 
  • Majors include Aviation Management, Aviation Business, Airport Management, Aviation Maintenance, etc.
