Land and Sea Operations Fellow


DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Director of Sea Operations

The Land and Sea Operations Fellow will work closely with both the Land and Sea Operations Departments at JAARS. He or she will learn about boat, 4WD, and motorcycle safety and operation from experts in their field and assist in presenting training courses, performing maintenance and repairs on fleet vessels and vehicles. He or she will also assist in creating virtual training materials to complement existing traditional training modules and create social media posts about the activities in their departments to be posted on facebook and instagram.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Become proficient and competent in operating manual transmission, 4WD vehicles, and motorcycles and driving in an off-road environment
  • Become proficient and competent in water travel safety, boat operation, and trailering and launching boats
  • Help train pre-field and furloughing missionaries in water safety and motorcycle/4WD operation and safety
  • Collaborate in adapting existing Land and Sea Ops training material into a virtual format
  • Learn and assist in routine and preventative maintenance on boats, motorcycles, and 4WD vehicles
  • Perform administrative activities associated with the effective management of shop operations, including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports, maintaining digital records of vehicle repairs, and planning periodic preventive maintenance such as oil and filter changes 
  • Gain experience and firsthand knowledge of field programs from a possible overseas vision trip (serve as hands-on crew in field operation and observe management and safety protocols)
  • Assist with development of promotional/social media content for Land and Sea Ops programs
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by manager

  • Have (or be willing to acquire) First Aid/CPR certification
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (trade school, military, YWAM discipleship training school, etc.)

Fellows Program Requirements

Preferred

  • Working experience with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.)
  • Motorcycle endorsement on driver’s license
  • Prior off-road 4WD and/or motorcycle riding experience
  • Prior boating experience
  • Boater Safety Course certificate and/or Lifeguard certificate
  • Basic to intermediate experience with hand and power tools in a shop environment
  • Majors include: Vehicle Mechanics, Engineering, Physics, Business, Transportation and Logistics Management, Operations Management, Maritime Maintenance, Maritime Safety Management, Maritime Transportation Studies, Occupational Safety, Outdoor Education
  • Valid US Passport
  • Bilingual
