Someone Worth Waking Up For

Mark 1:35

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. (ESV)

Mornings are rough.  I am not a morning person by any means.  However, when I love something or someone and the day ahead boasts of time spent doing what I love with people I love, I practically jump out of bed in the morning!

That made me a little extra convicted when someone recently posed the question: What gets you out of bed in the morning?  The first thing on my mind was my boyfriend, and then adventures of any kind, and then the need to get out of bed and go to work on time, but I couldn’t honestly say that the promise of time spent in God’s presence gets me out of bed in the morning.  I wish it did!  But I tend to snooze my alarm half a dozen times rather than get up and spend as much time as possible in God’s word.

Are you in a similar spot?  Is God not the thing that has you jumping out of bed ready to face the day?  Something has to change.  If our love for God is not enough to get us out of bed at an early hour to spend time talking to him then we need to refocus and take time to fall in love with our savior again.  Jesus knew that quality time with his father was a necessity of his life.  He got up early and found a place to be alone and talk to his father.  He valued that relationship more than sleep and he demonstrated that by how he lived.

So starting today, let’s seek to know God better.  Let’s look for all the things that make him amazing and let’s stand in awe that the creator of the universe wants to know us and spend time with us.  Let’s start a habit of spending time with God so that he becomes an irreplaceable part of our day.  So that he is the reason we have to get out of bed in the morning.
