JAARS is seeking an experienced and effective President/CEO to lead our global teams and engagement.


The Board of Directors of JAARS seeks to build upon our legacy of impact and the dedicated leadership of current President/CEO Woody McLendon by engaging a leadership search process for our next President/CEO.

The President/CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and, under its policy direction, has the responsibility to lead the international programs and operations of JAARS.

Leadership Responsibilities Include:

  • Representing the organization and its mission in the US and internationally, developing a variety of relationships with constituents, national partners, and leaders of other organizations that serve the Bible translation movement.
  • Providing executive leadership to the Senior Leadership Team of eight, which includes the vice presidents of People, Engagement, Facilities and Services, Global Initiatives, Transportation Services, Finance, and Engineering, as well as the chief of staff.
  • Establishing measurable strategic plans with the Senior Leadership Team that advance the vision, mission, values, and impact of the organization.
  • Partnering with the Board of Directors in its governance functions and in providing the information and context it needs to do its work with excellence.
  • Ensuring the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, North Carolina, maximizes its assets, programs, and facilities to accomplish strategic organizational outcomes.
  • Ensuring the financial health and long-term sustainability of the mission of JAARS.

  • A personal sense of calling to minority language communities and Bibleless people, and a desire to serve the broader Bible translation movement.
  • Generosity of spirit in relating to a variety of cultures and Christian traditions by maintaining a posture of listening, learning, and prioritizing what can be gained through shared discernment.
  • Significant senior leadership experience (Bible translation movement, international missions, Christian NGOs, military, aviation, or marketplace) with demonstrated growth in career responsibility and scope.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of vision and strategies that moved key organizational agendas forward.
  • Communication gifts that motivate and inspire staff and partners to bring their very best contributions to achieve the mission.
  • Team recruitment, development, and leadership that inspire collaboration and achievement of defined and high-impact results.
  • Donor development that resulted in fruitful, ongoing support of a project or mission.
  • A working understanding of the history, complexities, and needs of the Bible translation movement.
  • Experience serving in international and cross-cultural leadership in environments with a variety of partners.
  • Working knowledge in at least one of the following areas: transportation, technology, media, or training.
  • A demonstrated commitment to learning and advanced training (e.g., BA, MA, flight school).
