Pilot—Helicopter (US only)

Pilot flying helicopter in USDo you love helicopter flying and want to use your impact to draw others into missions aviation? Are you good at engaging people, both young and old, and sharing how aviation plays a critical role in Bible translation?

Participating in the JAARS Missions At The Airport (MATA) program, you will be a vital part of a missions awareness team, flying to public events and demonstrating how helicopters are used on the mission field. See that child’s face light up, when for the first time, they experience defying gravity.

Brief Description

Work with a team of pilots and ground staff to conduct public missions aviation awareness events, giving rides and performing helicopter demonstrations.

  • For a volunteer or a non-paid, career staff who raises support
  • Must be a US citizen or green card holder


  • Participate in Missions At The Airport planning
  • Conduct routine helicopter flights to and from Missions At The Airport events
  • Operate aircraft in accordance with JAARS standards and policies
  • Depending on qualifications, may conduct aircraft maintenance
  • Engage with the public representing JAARS through one on one contacts as well as public speaking events
  • Demonstrate a deep and growing walk with the Lord Jesus that includes your personal growth and the ability to support others in their spiritual growth
  • Embrace the vision, mission, and core values of JAARS, and help us live them effectively


  • Good communication and social skills
  • Good airmanship
  • Good judgement, discipline, adaptability, aptitude for learning, and is safety conscious

Education and Experience

  • Commercial Pilot certificate
  • Class II Medical certificate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a JAARS technical evaluation and orientation
  • 500 hours minimum flight time
  • A&P license desirable but not mandatory
