JAARS Pilots and Mechanics to Join Relief Efforts in Haiti

Thursday, February 4, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WAXHAW, N.C. — February 4, 2010 — As relief efforts continue in Haiti, JAARS is engaging with partner organization Samaritan's Purse (SP) by providing a crew of three Quest Kodiak aircraft pilots, a helicopter pilot and two maintenance personnel.

Today, February 4, JAARS will fly the SP Kodiak to Florida and then on to Haiti, where it will operate out of a location maintained by another partner organization, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). Flights will include delivering relief personnel, equipment and supplies to refugee camps.

The helicopter, which was flown to Haiti last week, is based on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince and will be used primarily to move medical teams around the area, since many roads are blocked.

JAARS pilots Steve Ottaviano, Gerry Gardner, Mark Wuerffel and Daryl Bussert will rotate with others for three to four weeks at a time. JAARS mechanics Jim Metzler and Merle Busenitz will spend time in Haiti as needed for aircraft maintenance.

Please pray with us for these men as they minister to those who are hurting and those who are serving in recovery efforts in Haiti. Please also pray for their families, who remain here at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, N.C.
