FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WAXHAW, N.C. — February 19, 2010 — JAARS Media Relations Officer Arthur Lightbody says JAARS Day is an opportunity to see how the life-transforming work of Bible translation is done and how to become a part of it. He says, "More than 2,200 language groups around the world have no Scriptures."
He adds, "Just over 1,200 people attended a JAARS Day in 2009, and 2,300 took one of the daily tours to learn how JAARS reaches the Bibleless people."
JAARS Tour Director Ann Rodgers says, "By spending the better part of a Saturday at a JAARS Day, open house guests can see how a mission group actually works and how JAARS is fulfilling its part of the Great Commission—obeying Jesus’ command to go into all the world to make disciples." She stresses, "You can see the actual tools we use. These include aircraft, four-wheel-drive vehicles, computers, information technology and appropriate local-language media."
These tools and strategies that Rodgers cites, and others, will be showcased at each JAARS Day in 2010. In addition to the March 6 event, JAARS will host three other JAARS Day events in 2010—on May 1, August 7 and October 2.
The opening program begins at 9:45 a.m. in the Townsend Building located at the intersection of JAARS and Davis Roads, just five miles from Waxhaw.
Guests can meet representatives from every major JAARS department and see demonstrations each JAARS Day. Missionary travel can be experienced by taking the "Mission Adventure Ride," a four-wheel-drive trip through the woods followed by a brief airplane ride on the STOL (short takeoff and landing) Helio Courier airplane, taking off from a dirt airstrip. The "Mission Adventure Ride" and helicopter rides each cost $22.
JAARS, staffed by members of Wycliffe Bible Translators and volunteers, provides training and worldwide coordination for technical services that speed Bible translation. Log on to www.jaars.org and www.wycliffe.org for an informative and interesting look at these two related organizations.
JAARS daily tours begin at 9:30 a.m. For reservations or more information, please call the JAARS tour office at 1-704-843-6130 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday to Friday, or send an email to: tours_JAARS@jaars.org.
More information on JAARS Days, daily tours, and also on the Mexico-Cárdenas Museum and the Museum of the Alphabet, can be found on the "Get Involved" section of www.jaars.org.
There is no cost for the JAARS Day program or visiting the JAARS Museum of the Alphabet or Mexico-Cárdenas Museum. Aircraft rides and lunches can be purchased on JAARS Day. All who fly must sign a Voluntary Release of Rights and Waiver of Liability, or have the form signed by a parent or legal guardian if a minor. See the JAARS Day section on www.jaars.org for a form to be signed prior to a visit if a parent or legal guardian does not accompany a child.
