FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WAXHAW, N.C. — April 19, 2010 — A full JAARS Day is planned for Saturday, May 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Davis and JAARS roads outside of Waxhaw.
JAARS global information technology specialist Caryl Mallory says, "Be sure to bring your GPS device to JAARS Day to go on a high-tech treasure hunt. Enter coordinates and locate five hidden containers. You will learn how JAARS supports Bible translation from each cache, and if you locate all five you will win a prize."
The day begins with worship music at 9 a.m., followed by the first of three "JAARS at a Glance" 25-minute overviews of JAARS ministries.
To celebrate Cinco de Mayo and honor Mexican history and culture, the JAARS Mexico-Cárdenas Museum will showcase live Mexican music and folk dances at 2 and 3 p.m. and a piñata for young children at 2:30 p.m. The Mexico-Cárdenas Museum and the Museum of the Alphabet will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mexican music will also be highlighted at the Townsend building at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
Guests can meet representatives from every major JAARS department and see missions demonstrations.
Representatives from JAARS Maritime Services will demonstrate how they assist missionaries with safe travel by water on JAARS Crystal Lake. Visitors can experience the "Mission Adventure Ride," a four-wheel-drive trip through the woods followed by a brief airplane ride on the STOL Helio Courier airplane, taking off from a dirt airstrip. The "Mission Adventure Ride" and helicopter rides each cost $22.
There is no cost for the JAARS day program or visiting the JAARS Museum of the Alphabet or Mexico-Cárdenas Museum. Aircraft rides and lunches can be purchased on JAARS Day. All who fly must sign a Voluntary Release of Rights and Waiver of Liability, or a parent or legal guardian must sign if a minor. See the JAARS Day section on www.jaars.org for a form to be signed prior to a visit if a parent or legal guardian does not accompany a child.
JAARS is staffed by members of Wycliffe Bible Translators and volunteers to provide training and worldwide coordination for technical services that speed Bible translation. Log on to www.jaars.org and www.wycliffe.org for a look at these two related organizations.
The next JAARS Days will be August 7 and October 2.
