Principles

We support the founding principles of SIL International, a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to serving language communities worldwide as they build capacity for sustainable language development. SIL International was the first organization formed by our founder, William Cameron Townsend.

We pioneer.

For more than 60 years, we have expanded our support services to meet the changing needs of Bible translation teams. JAARS began with one plane in Peru, but we have since grown to eight internationally operating departments. Today, we continue to pioneer by providing innovative resources, such as translation software and media services.

We follow a linguistic approach.

Our services are designed to support linguists in their studies and translation work. We provide resources, such as computer support and transportation, to aid translators working with Wycliffe and other linguistic organizations.

We give people the Bible.

Our wide variety of support services are united by one common goal: to speed Bible translation for all people groups. Like our partner organizations, we offer all language groups the Bible without promoting religious sectarianism or any "brand" of religion.

We serve everyone.

We believe that partnerships are essential to speeding Bible translation. We work with willing organizations, governments and people to further the worldwide translation effort.

We trust God for the impossible.

This organization was founded on Townsend’s “impossible” vision for a Bible translation support service. Today, we continue to operate with the faith that God will provide for any need. Whether funding or personnel, guidance or partnerships, we trust that God will work miracles to allow JAARS to further our support of Bible translation.
