3D Animation Software for Signed-Language Translations
Get Involved
Your gift will help provide 3D animation software that can be used to create high-quality animations of signed-language Scriptures.
Today, dozens of signed-language translation teams are bringing God’s Word to life in the heart language of Deaf communities.
Currently, most signed-language Scriptures are presented via video. Yet the process is fraught with difficulties:
- Videos can be expensive and time-consuming; even minor changes require refilming.
- Signers may change in appearance or cease working on the project.
- Translations may be rejected due to a Deaf person’s denomination or credibility.
- Signers may not participate due to security concerns or fear of critique.
Working with Deaf people in the United States and Spain, JAARS recently launched WordSign—a project to develop 3D animation tools for producing high-quality, cost-effective media in signed languages. Once complete, these tools can be used by Deaf and hearing teams working with partner organizations such as SIL International, DOOR International and the United Bible Societies.
By partnering with JAARS, you can help provide the programming, travel, equipment and supplies needed to create this software.
As a result, many Deaf can soon have powerful tools for creating compelling 3D animations—bringing Scriptures to life in their own language.
