Vehicle for Administrative Team in Papua New Guinea
Get Involved
The Bible Translation Association (BTA) is an organization in Papua New Guinea committed to translating the Bible into the languages of their country. It is also involved in literacy and Scripture engagement efforts.
The ability of BTA to serve Alotau (the East Papua region) is restricted because of the lack of a suitable vehicle. Public transportation is limited and inadequate. BTA needs a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle capable of negotiating the rugged terrain outside the city.
An administrative team of four staff members serves over 15 language programs in Milne Bay and Oro Provinces. Currently they have no vehicle. Many visitors and members of partner organizations, such as SIL Papua New Guinea, come to assist BTA through training and workshops. Those involved often need transportation to local language locations. And the Alotau construction supervisor needs a way to transport materials and personnel for property development that is soon to begin. For these needs and more, a rugged 4WD vehicle with space for up to eight people is urgently needed.
A truck such as a Toyota Hilux twin cab would help BTA office staff to carry out their administrative responsibilities. It would enable visits with translators, literacy personnel, and Scripture-use workers to further the progress of Bible translation in this remote location. Also, this vehicle would service the planned development of facilities for translation work in Alotau.
