Radios for Remote Translation Teams
When the wife of a Papua New Guinean Bible translator lay ill, at times near death, the regional translation office had to wait for news by word of mouth.
The couple was working in an isolated area, without any means of communication—more than a day’s travel from the office, which lay in the northeastern coastal city of Madang. While the woman weathered her illness, others had to wait, frustrated they could not contact the family to offer comfort or assistance.
The team is one of many working in isolated areas of Papua New Guinea, often along tree-blanketed mountainsides or on remote islands. For these teams, who rarely have access to Internet and phones, radios can be a lifeline.
By partnering with JAARS, you can help provide radios for several teams, as well as antennas, solar panels and other equipment.
With these resources, Bible translation, literacy and health initiatives can flourish in Papua New Guinea’s most remote communities—without unnecessary stress and danger.
