Your gift will help provide a ferry boat for the Bijago Archipelago, enabling the Guinean Church to serve many islanders.

Give Now

Viewed from the heavens, Guinea-Bissau and its Bijago Archipelago resemble a breathtaking gem: savannah browns melding into tropical rain forests; swampy, green coastal plains; islands peppering the ocean, beginning roughly 10 miles out.

The realities of living on these islands, however, are breathtaking in other ways.

Here, no inter-island boat service exists; and from the capital, Bissau, commercial ferry service visits only one island. Without transportation, the islanders are severed from the wider economy and Christian fellowship; bereft of medical aid, or sustenance when rice runs low.

By partnering with JAARS, you can help provide a ferry for the archipelago, enabling the Guinean Church to support:

  • Bible translation, including a revision of a Bijago New Testament in the Orango dialect.
  • Evangelism and church planting.
  • Literacy classes.
  • Medical outreach, such as a mobile eye clinic and HIV/AIDS education.
  • Well-digging and grain storage on the islands.

As a result, Bijago communities can finally experience their Father’s provision—for daily needs, such as meals and medicine, as well as the endless hope found in His Son.
