Technical Support for Translators in India

More than 400 languages echo across India—permeating plateaus and chiseled mountains, barren deserts and teeming city streets. Today, God’s Word resounds in more than 130 Indian languages; translation is underway for roughly the same number.

And more than 160 have yet to be reached.

Nearly all current and future Bible translations rely on computers: the go-to machine for analyzing languages, typing drafts, researching and collaborating. Yet few translators are technical gurus, making software bugs and equipment glitches menacing obstacles.

By partnering with JAARS, you can support the New Life Computer Institute (NLCI)—which aims to provide technical support to more than 50 Indian translation programs.

This project will provide equipment, software and training for NLCI staff, enabling the team to offer:

• Software support, such as developing and customizing software, designing fonts and troubleshooting.
• Hardware support, including purchasing and maintenance.
• Typesetting of translation drafts.
• Data processing.
• Online services.

With this support, dozens of teams can better harness technology for Bible translation—and bring God’s Word more quickly to Indian communities.
