Typesetting and Software Training in Nigeria

After years of painstaking effort by Nigerian translators, a New Testament is complete. The people eagerly plan a celebration—but wait.

Before the Book can be dedicated, it must be printed. And before that, it must be typeset and carefully examined for errors.

Until recently, however, no typesetting service was offered within Nigeria; it had to be done in Europe or the United States. Many Nigerian translators also seek training and support in software programs such as FieldWorks and Paratext, but little assistance exists within the country.

By partnering with JAARS, you can help support the Typesetting and Language Software department in Nigeria, established to meet these pressing needs. This project will provide office space, a computer room, Internet connection, stable power supply, and training for a Nigerian to join the team.

These resources will enable the fledgling department to:

  • Offer workshops on translation software.
  • Operate a drop-in training and support center.
  • Typeset several New Testaments or Bibles each year.

As a result, Scriptures can be printed and into the hands of Africans, sooner rather than later.
