Christmas Translation Projects
Asia Translation Africa Translation

Four different teams have tried at different times to work among the one million “B” people in Asia, but each team encountered such setbacks that they had to quit. For the first time in history, God has called four believers from within this unreached group to translate His Word for their people. These four believers work at great personal risk in an area of the world where security concerns threaten their work. But they know the power of God’s Word, and they trust Him to change the hearts of their people through the translated Word.

The project is in its critical first phase, with the goal of translating 10% of the New Testament in the next two years! “The “B” people should not be left to walk in darkness when we have the light of God’s Word,” said the SIL project leader. Now they won’t have to because, for the first time, national speakers are committed to providing the light of God’s Word through Bible translation.

Salary for each mother-tongue translator: $300 per month

Total need: $17,914

Civil war slowed the translation of the Munukutuba New Testament during the 1990s, and this year the project leader suddenly left. But the Munukutuba New Testament translation should be completed by spring 2004! The national translators are helping churches use the available Scripture portions, training people to read translated Scriptures on the radio, and launching literacy classes in the language. With God’s Word in Munukutuba, spoken by more than half the population of Congo, churches will be better equipped to offer the life-giving Gospel to people traumatized by war memories or held captive to sorcery and fear of the spirits.
  • Two full-time mother-tongue translators $249 per month each
  • Office space and supplies $200 per month
  • Recording Scripture for radio 2 tapes/wk x 40 weeks x $2/tape $160

Total need for the year: $16,264

Peru Translation HOW TO GIVE

The fruit from 50 years of Bible translation work in Peru is abundant: 35 completed New Testaments and 500 active evangelical churches serving people in the Peruvian jungle. The church is maturing; Scripture memorization has become a key tool for believers. But supplies of New Testaments are low or, in some cases, depleted, and the Old Testament has never been translated. However, God is at work:

A group of local churches and four mission organizations are working together to support Old Testament translation and New Testament revision.16 mother-tongue translators are working on Old Testament translations for six languages.

You can partner with one of these translators and help them do the work God has called them to do.

Salary for each mother-tongue translator: $200 per month

Total need: $58,235
