About the JAARS Museum of the Alphabet
Related Organizations
Townsend's dream of an Alphabet Museum was an extension of the vision of
the organizations that he founded to serve minority language groups around
the world. These organizations, along with others which developed to support
them, include:
- The Summer Institute of Linguistics, now SIL
International, with international headquarters in Dallas, Texas, USA,
was created to study minority languages around the world.
- The Wycliffe Bible Translators International,
with international headquarters in Dallas, Texas, USA, was created to help
provide a translation of the Bible in languages that do not yet have it.
- JAARS provides equipment, training,
and high quality technical services through qualified personnel in field
locations where the SIL International serves around the world. Areas of
support include: aviation, telecommunications, computers, and other services
such as purchasing and shipping, trucking, construction and maintenance,
and vernacular media.
- The International Museum of Culture
provides permanent displays of minority cultures at the International Linguistics
Center in Dallas, Texas.
