| The JAARS Center is situated on 600 acres of pine
woodlands, divided by a 3,300 foot airstrip called Townsend Field.
The Center is located 30 miles south of Charlotte and 5 miles south
of Waxhaw.
Approximately 500 JAARS workers are assigned to field locations to provide technical support and services for Bible translators. In addition, 600 workers serve at the JAARS Center. This includes career member staff, new JAARS workers receiving training before going overseas, field workers on furlough, short-term and long-term volunteers. The JAARS community includes many retirees who have moved to the area to be involved in the work. About 49 percent of the total number of workers at JAARS are volunteers. Tours are conducted weekday mornings, except holidays, at 9:30 AM from the Townsend Memorial Building. (Get “Door-To-Door” Directions with a map ). JAARS Day will be held on March 1, May 17 (JAARS 60th year celebration), August 2, and October 4 in 2008. Activities include a tour, demonstrations, and visits to the Mexico-Cárdenas Museum and the Museum of the Alphabet. For further information and reservations call the tour department at 704-843-6130. |
