Urgent Needs at JAARS

 
Some of the ministry of JAARS occurs within our borders, but its impact is felt around the globe. Each of these avenues of service helps speed the Word of God to people around the world who are waiting to hear of His love in a language they can understand. Each one also brings blessings to those who serve.
The JAARS Center in Waxhaw has many opportunities for service. These top most critical needs could be filled by those willing to commit at least two years to the task (members or volunteers).
 
  • ACCOUNTS PAYABLE CLERK — Did you know that the JAARS Purchasing and Shipping Department serves Bible translators throughout the world? By using your financial skills, you can make an eternal impact! This position handles vendor invoices, insurance claims and other financial matters critical to supporting our translators. The person must be detail-oriented and comfortable working in a computer environment. If this fits your capabilities, we are in urgent need of your help!
  • SYSTEMS COORDINATOR — If you have a good understanding of accounting systems and a desire to further the work of Bible translation, this may be the right spot for you! In addition to being responsible for general accounting tasks such as bank reconciliations, sales tax returns and travel expenses/reimbursements, you would supervise volunteer staff accountants and train them as backups for other positions in the department.
  • ACCOUNTS PAYABLE COORDINATOR — As an Accounts Payable Coordinator, your skills would be utilized in accounts payable, including data entry, payments to vendors and reconciliation of corporate credit cards. You would supervise accounts payable assistants, data entry personnel and check clerks in addition to training them as backups for other positions in the department.
  • AVIATION MAINTENANCE MANAGER — JAARS maintains air support throughout the world, but much of the basic support occurs at the JAARS Center. In this position you would manage the JAARS hangar, supervise personnel, and oversee aviation field support and local operations programs. If you have practical management skills and an understanding of, and ability to work within the context of SIL Aviation and JAARS programs, please contact our Aviation Department.
  • AVIATION CHIEF PILOT — The work of Bible translation would be severely hampered without our Aviation experts! World-wide aviation endeavors demand that personnel in the Aviation Operations be of the highest quality. This position of Aviation Chief Pilot is strategic for the overall safety and effectiveness of JAARS flight operations. Documenting activities and coordinating efforts with the JAARS Aviation team requires excellent interaction with the Operations section of JAARS Aviation. In the role of Chief Pilot you would be instrumental in building a committed and knowledgeable group of pilots and setting the standards for the proper use of JAARS aircraft equipment.
  • MAILROOM MANAGER — Manager of the JAARS mailroom is a challenging position. The mailroom processes all JAARS corporate mail. Additionally, all U.S. Post Office services are offered to JAARS staff and their families. As our Center Services Mailroom Manager, you would supervise the mailroom staff, keep up-to-date with U.S. and International Postal regulations, and monitor all business functions of the mail room. No experience is necessary. Thorough on-the-job training will be provided.
  • AVIATION OVERSEAS BUYER — Translators serving in remote areas rely on air support, and air support depends on the availability of supplies and parts. This vital role of Aviation Overseas Buyer mandates an efficient person to manage the logistical purchasing needs of our overseas Aviation programs in all entities (JAARS. WBT,and SIL). You must process orders and inquiries in a timely manner and inform field customer consistently and appropriately regarding their order status and general parts procurement information. You would be responsible to process returned parts, respond to inquires and research as well as identify and recommend appropriate process and policy changes.
  • BUYER — The JAARS Purchasing and Shipping Department is crucial to the work of Bible translation. A chief role in this department is the Buyer who purchases materials, equipment and supplies necessary for the operation of an entity. This entails interaction with vendors to obtain information regarding product price, availability and delivery. Knowledge of the market is beneficial for testing, observing or comparing items to be purchased. Ability to estimate and compare prices is also key to this position. The ideal person possesses effective communication skills, necessary for interaction with members, administration and suppliers.
  • PURCHASING MANAGER/BUYER — Directly related to overseas mission work is the upkeep of the equipment at the JAARS Center. Filling this urgent need for a Purchasing and Shipping Manager/Buyer is a priority. You would buy supplies and equipment for the needs at the JAARS Center and the WBT/SIL members located in many entities worldwide. This task necessitates interaction with vendors, customers and JAARS personnel. The ideal person for this position will excel in communication skills and be able to supervise all JAARS Center purchasing and monitor purchasing policies.
  • ASSISTANT TELEPHONE DEPARTMENT MANAGER — Did you know that the Wycliffe technical training center (JAARS) resembles a small town with its own airport? It provides "one-stop" technical services for U.S. and field-based Wycliffe Bible Translators. Since the 1950s, JAARS has supplied technical services and training to missionaries so that all of the 2300 language groups in the world will receive God's Word in their mother tongue. As Telephone Department Assistant Manager, your job will be to assure that our telephone system is well-maintained and can meet the increasing needs of the Bible translation tasks. You will find this role personally challenging as you install/maintain our telephone and network systems.
  • IT NETWORK SECURITY ENGINEER — Do you have experience working with network security? Would you like to use that skill to further Bible translation? Make an eternal impact by joining the JAARS team serving SIL, Wycliffe, and affiliated organizations. The need is urgent to fill this position. Missionaries around the world count on JAARS Information Technology Department to provide PC and software support, repair services, e-mail service, and network troubleshooting for their IT needs. In our rapidly evolving world of technology, JAARS mission is to supply the technical capacity to help advance the work of those involved in Bible translation and language development. Due to ever increasing Internet security threats and our deployment of new tools and solutions, the Network Security Engineer position is foremost to the safety and welfare of our missionaries around the world. In this position you will work with a team of second and third tier experts to provide security consulting and troubleshooting for new technology which benefits missionaries worldwide. Much of your job will be in coordination with other technical IT personnel, although you may occasionally deal directly with the end-user to resolve problems or gather troubleshooting data. This position demands experience in network administration, intrusion detection, and security auditing. You must be a team player, document your work and share your information with those on your team. An interest in digging into new technology and standards is a chief factor in this role as well.
  • IT CUSTOMER SERVICES MANAGER — Do you have management skills which you would like to use to further the work of Bible translation? Join the JAARS team serving SIL, Wycliffe, and affiliated organizations and make a lasting difference! We have an urgent need to fill this position. Missionaries around the world rely on the JAARS Information Technology Customer Services team to offer advice and repair services for their computers. In today's rapidly changing technical world, JAARS mission is to provide the technical capacity to help advance the work of people involved in Bible translation and language development. This role in particular is directly related to that mission, and you will be managing a team who provide customer service for computer problems to our worldwide staff.
  • IT TRAINING MANAGER — Do you have communications and computer training skills you would like to use to further the work of Bible translation? We have an urgent need to fill this position. In this role you would coordinate instructional training in the classroom by remote access as well as provide guidance to other members of the department. Responsibilities would include the design/development of documented instructional content, help files, on-line tutorials, and distance learning courses, utilizing a variety of instructional styles and formats. Travel to visit various SIL approved training events to assist users would be required. As Training Manager you would provide training, guidance and mentoring to other members of design and development team as it pertains to IT training issues; you must stay abreast of current trends in any fields related to the design and development of training content. The person filling this position should have outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership ability along with training and/or experience in adult education. A thorough understanding of current and past Windows OS (9x and forward) and Microsoft Word in addition to basic understanding of industry standards, such as HTML, XML, Unicode is required.
  • IT WEB DEVELOPER — Web design and development is an invaluable tool in today's marketplace. It also plays a significant role in the work of Bible translation. The position of Web Developer is urgently needed. The applicant must be able to build software applications to provide the technical architecture of websites or web-based software products. Your duties would include collecting feedback from design and technical staff, building user interface applications and back-end databases, creating prototypes and functional specifications for software projects, and creating technical methodologies for engineering solutions to web-based development problems.
  • SPECIAL ASSIST VP COMMUNICATIONS — This position is open to a person who is an exceptional communicator and can assist the Vice President of Communications in Administration at the JAARS Center in a variety of tasks. You must be able to respond to telephone and written requests for information as well as develop and maintain organized, accurate records of communications which are available to the Administrator; you must maintain confidentiality and relationships with field workers and office staff and possess the ability to co-ordinate activities for an efficient and smooth office operation. You will need to find creative solutions to administrative problems and make decisions in accordance with delegated authority, yet remain open to input and suggestions from team members.
  • WATER SYSTEM MANAGER — JAARS Center needs a qualified Water Systems Manager. The Construction and Maintenance Department manages three wells that supply potable water for our operations and residences on the Center and in the immediate community. As such, the JAARS center is a NC State approved water utility and must comply with water quality standards. JAARS would provide resources for the required certification for NC State Water Treatment Facility Operator. Management experience desirable.
  • DIRECTOR OF MARITIME SERVICES — Did you know that many of the areas in which Wycliffe Bible Translation teams are working are accessible only by water? With a focus on safety and speed of transportation, JAARS has been developing Maritime Services. In this challenging position as Director of our Maritime Services, you would remain in close contact with civil and military personnel as appropriate and keep abreast of changes/functionality of the Emergency Rescue System. You would develop training programs to teach individuals in water allocations to understand what type of equipment is needed and how to utilize it. Diplomacy with public relations is a high priority for this position. You will collaborate with JAARS Partnership Ministries Department to establish fundraising projects for the purpose of acquiring boats and other water equipment.
  • HOUSING MANAGER — If you have management ability and an interest in the hospitality field, this could be a good fit for you! There are over 100 houses, apartments and RV lots on the JAARS campus that are available to accommodate visitors from all over the world who come to JAARS for training, conferences, or to volunteer. The Housing Manager acts on behalf of JAARS in meeting hospitality and accommodation needs of these guests. The person filling this position will exhibit evidence of maturity, particularly in relating to adults and student helpers and in maintaining high quality standards. You will be working within authorized budget expenditures and handling in-coming donations; therefore, ability in the area of finance is a primary consideration. Other responsibilities include solving storage solutions for members with overseas assignments and managing the Center dumpsters and 250 roll-out individual units.
