Volunteer Opportunities

| Help get Scriptures in use throughout the
world by joining the JAARS team in Waxhaw.
|
|
There are many opportunities for you to make a
significant contribution to the work of Bible translation at
JAARS. We can use volunteers for any length of time—from one
week up to full time. Make your vacations, sabbaticals,
internships, and retirement more
purposeful than ordinary.
|
|
|
|
Service Possibilities
|
|
|
- Aviation - aircraft mechanic, machinist,
avionics technician, general hangar maintenance.
- Cafeteria - kitchen assistant, cook, dishwasher.
- Child Care - teacher, teacher’s aide.
- Computer - software, hardware, training areas.
- Construction and Maintenance - builder,
carpenter, painter, mechanic, welder, electrician, plumber,
grounds-keeper, handy-man.
- Housing - housekeeper, decorator, seamstress.
- Management and supervisory roles may be
available to qualified volunteers who are able to work full time
for a year or longer.
- Materials Transportation - local and
long-range drivers, vehicle maintenance.
- Offices - secretary, receptionist, computer
operator.

Requirements
|
|
|
- Desire to promote and assist Bible translation, compatible
personality, willingness to serve as needed, and adequate physical
health.
- At least 14 years of age. A volunteer under 18 must be
accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for him/her while
serving at JAARS, or the volunteer must live with a JAARS related
family.
- Have adequate health insurance.
- Willing and able to cover all personal living expenses while
serving at JAARS. JAARS does not provide any remuneration or
subsidies for volunteers or Wycliffe members serving at the center.
- Long-term volunteers must have godly character and be in
agreement with the Wycliffe doctrinal statement.
- Groups are welcome, but are normally limited to 15 and are
subject to the availability of housing and meaningful work assignments.
- To protect our children JAARS does criminal background checks
on anyone having repetitive access or contact with our children or
youth.

Housing
|
|
|
| JAARS has on-center housing
for rent as well as an RV park. To be
eligible to rent center housing beyond one week, a single volunteer
must work at least 30 hours per week, and couples a combined total of
40 hours per week. For your information, JAARS is a non-smoking campus.
|
|
|
Meals
|
|
|
| All JAARS housing units have cooking facilities.
The JAARS dining room offers a noon meal Monday through Friday.
There are several restaurants within 10 to 15 minutes of the
center. Many more are available 25 to 30 minutes away. |
|
|
